If Only …

If only former President Bush, when he decided to go into Afghanistan in 2001 in response to the then Afghani government’s refusal to hand over alleged al-Quida forces [because they alleged the former administration proffered no proof], had acted differently and went after Osama bin Laden full speed ahead, when he knew where he was.

If only the former administration had not marched into Iraq on false information and lead us into another never-ending war.  If only the former administration did not tamper with our civil and human rights to the point that Amnesty International began to look our way with regard to one of the worst stains in American history, Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay.

Rell, Palin, Lieberman and Woody Allen. What would Lear do?

Du Bard l’univers alternatif. Pote! Déplacement sur l’homme. Vous avez accès à l’ensemble du banc.

What if Connecticut’s Governor Jodi Rell teamed up with Alaska’s Former Governor Sarah Palin? The party of no’s version of Thelma & Louise, “Jodi and Sarah … moose-hunting, fishing and everything.”

Just suppose that Jodi took a page out of Sarah’s play book, the one that is making best seller’s lists everywhere, and quit her office.  We would all understand her doing so as the party of no sees itself as the “no government” party.  No taxes, no spending any money. No reason to have elected officials …. No doubt, that is why Sarah quit her job as Governor.

Take this a little further and what would Connecticut do if Senator Lieberman decided to team up with Jodi and Sarah, as well?  At this point,

Bud & Travis Sing the Merry Minuet: A little Comic Relief

In times of upheaval and social unrest, art, music and culture provide us a means to self express and chronicle our concerns in ways that ease the moment.  In the 1950′s and early 1960′s, Bud Dashiell and Travis Edmonson, better known as Bud & Travis, were among several great folks singers who, through song and wittful lyrics, delighted us with humor and commentary on the world’s plight and the need to rid the world of nuclear weaponry. In this video clip, they sing “The Merry Minuet,” which sums up what was going on in the world at the time.

Jane Elliott’s Brown-eyed/Blue-eyed People. A Class Divided.

My personal encounter with Jane Elliott’s exercise in racism and segregation was through a friend of mine who teachers diversity training at Outward Bound. Shirley convinced me to attend a “couple” of days training through experiential learning on a place called Thompson Island, which is located right off of Boston harbor.

I met Shirley McGill at a four-day conference in Florida at SGI’s Florida Nature and Culture Center; Shirley was attending the education sessions and I was attending the legal sessions.  We struck up a conversation between sessions and became instant life-long friends.  Shirley, an educator and diversity trainer/consultant, kept talking about Thompson Island and the Outward Bound diversity training course, team building and so on.  Finally, after about six months of hearing about this course, I decided to take it.

Afghanistan, the Economy and Palin Philosophy. Whose Fault is it Anyway?

In March 1973, I exhaled a sigh of relief when the last major combat troops left South Vietnam.  Two years later, I was delighted; we had pulled out completely.  How wonderful to know that my little sons would not grow up and have to pick up a gun and go to war. I marched and protested against war, nuclear weapons, killing our planet and our environment, and for our civil and equal rights.  In 1975, I thought that was it; no more war.  Life was good and all would be fine.

A lot of my friends are upset with President Obama; they fear he will lead us into another Vietnam.  Too late, I tell them.  Bush beat him to that ownership; we’ve been there for eight years already.  There is also chatter about what was promised and what was not promised.  Short memories, I respond.  President Obama always talked about pulling out of the dumb war in Iraq and instead drive out al-Qaeda from the hills and caves of Afghanistan.

Golden Memories. Life’s True Treasures.

It is the afternoon before Thanksgiving and normally by this time, I would be on my third venti mocha latte with soy, no whip, hurriedly running through my mind at least four or five tasks that needed to get done before it turned dark.  Which Christmas theme to use; I have seven sets of ornaments for seven different themes and that includes not just the Christmas tree, but the entire first floor of my home (obsession is mine). Picking up the table cloths and napkins from the cleaners; figuring out whether I had sufficient napkin ring holders for all who were coming; and where was everyone going to sleep — do I have sufficient blow up beds? Not this time.

Fox News Uses 2008 Campaign Footage as Palin Book Tour Crowd

Fox news is at it again.  In an flimsy effort to deliberately distort the amount of people coming out to see Sarah Palin and get their book signed, Fox news uses video footage of Palin at a presidential campaign rally from last year!  Notice that everyone is seated at an arena or stadium, carrying McCain/Palin signs (check out the beginning of the video on the bottom right) and a local government official standing not too far behind her on the stage.  The book toors take place in or just outside of malls where folks are mostly standing.  No one is carrying last year’s campaign signs.  And lately, crowds are growing angry over not getting their books signed, calling Palin “Quitter” and shouting “Sign Our Books.”

Sarah Palin Quits, Again – Return Book and get your Money Back!

What’s up with Sarah Palin? First, she lies about what happened on the campaign trail in her book.  Then, when things get rough or don’t go her way, Palin quits.  That’s not the way to treat your fans or your potential voters.  If Palin is looking for a run in 2012, she is doing all the right things to ensure a no-vote.  The worst thing you can do is to get folks all riled up, travel long distances and stand outside for hours on end and then don’t sign their book.

If anyone purchased a book and waited for Palin, who was there but refused to continue to stay and sign books, they should return the book and get their money back. Fair is fair.  Check out the video below.

CT NAACP/Sen Lieberman Press Release Calling on Lieberman to Support Senate Health Reform Bill

NAACP Connecticut State Conference Calls On Senator Lieberman To Support Health Care Reform Bill In The Senate And To Meet With Communities Of Color During Thanksgiving Recess

Concerns Raised During DC Capitol Hill Meeting Raise Fundamental Concerns that May Jeopardize Nations Opportunity For Comprehensive Health Care Reform

Hard Right Conservatives have Short Memories … the Axis of Evil is No More

President Obama just wrapped up his eight-day tour in Asia stating this morning that, ”Asia is a region where we now buy more goods and do more trade with than any other place in the world — commerce that supports millions of jobs back home … I spoke with leaders in every nation I visited about what we can do to sustain this economic recovery and bring back jobs and prosperity for our people — a task I will continue to focus on relentlessly in the weeks and months ahead,” by Philip Elliott (AP).

Unfortunately, ignorance still abounds in this country.  Talk show hosts continue to bemoan (as recent as last night) how the President bowed (a gesture that is culturally correct in Japan) to Japan’s aging Emperor.  It just shows their ignorance of Japanese culture, and a gross lack of ideological relevance.

G’s Polls. Mertens leads Senate race, and Lamont leads Gubernatorial Race.

NOV 20, 2009:  Poll numbers have changed significantly this week — and lots of commentary too — for Connecticut’s Senate Race in 2010.  John Mertens leads Sen. Dodd by 14 points at 52 to 35.

GroundUPCT’s poll for CT governor shows Lamont continuing to lead 32 points ahead at 54% to Bysiewicz at 22% and Malloy at 17%.

Pundits, especially outside of Connecticut, have talked about polls showing Sen. Lieberman with favorable ratings.  GroundUPCT viewers seemed to differ.  When asked what should Senate Democrats do if Lieberman filibusters health reform with Republicans, 69% said oust him from the Democrat Caucus and strip him of his leadership.  See more results below.

Faithful Reform in Health Care Call Senate. Prayer Vigil for Lieberman 11/24

Join Faithful in Health Reform and contact your Senators today and Saturday.  Use toll-free number 1-888-797-8717 or call local offices, or send an email.

The vote to proceed to debate, a critical first step in moving the Senate health care bill forward, will likely happen Saturday evening.  This motion to commit the bill to the floor for debate requires 60 votes. Senators in both parties, plus independents, are threatening to vote no, thus blocking debate on the bill itself.
