Last month, the insurance companies held a conference in Washington, DC to form a strategy in order to kill health care reform. Seven families whose lives have been turned upside-down by the insurance industry’s predatory denials of health care coverage sent a letter to Karen Ignagni, the insurance industry’s top lobbyist, demanding she meet with them and hear first hand what the industry does to regular people. Ignagni was a no-show.
Health Care for America Now, TrueMajority and USAction is following Ignagni and the rest of the industry to Chicago where they will host an even bigger conference on Tuesday, November 17th.
The insurance companies will stop at nothing to ensure the health care reform bill dies in the Senate. That is why they are meeting in Chicago, to devise ways to make sure their profits and bonuses are protected, and that means killing health care reform no matter what kind of harm the status quo causes.
It is us to us to call them out. Small business owners like Mecheall Williams from Louisiana, who, because of skyrocketing health care costs, has to choose between keeping his business open or providing health care for himself and his employees. Small businesses, which are the cornerstone of America’s economy, should not be forced to make such decisions.
