We need to gain back the conversation with reality and truth. Russell Simmons is definitely on point here.
Words when written with deep commitment and conviction, with a call in every letter etch in our hearts the will to respond.

An Air Berlin flight from Namibia bound for Munich was stopped on Thursday due to a suitcase that may have been carrying a bomb — or the makings of a bomb. The suitcase was subsequently scanned showing there was wiring connected to a clock or what appeared to be a timing device. On further inspection, there were no explosives inside. Passengers were allowed to then re-board and continue their flight to Munich. Prior to this incidence, German officials stated that they had firm evidence of Islamic militant attacks planned to happen on German soil and have identified six individuals as terrorists whom they are searching for. “Over a 100,000 Alaskan voters have correctly filled in the oval and written in ‘Lisa Murkowski.’ That’s a pretty affirmative act of the electorate here in this state,” said Murkowski in her first interview since declaring victory.” This is a story that inspires us all and instills in us a sense of pride in our democratic process. It says, ‘Democracy works and that the voice of the people of cannot be silenced.’
This is why we elected Barack Obama to be president. Conventional wisdom says that our attention span is short; and more than likely so is our memory. But not too long ago, there was a lot of chatter about putting someone at the helm of the ship who would tackle the desperate problems we faced with tenacity, thoughtfulness and intelligence. Someone who would get the job done and not respond in a knee-jerk reaction.
It’s working! The decision to bailout the last vestiges of manufacturing in this country — auto makers — is working. On Wednesday, a New York Times headline said it all, “U.S. Taxpayers Recover Billions in Sale of G.M. Stock.”
Too bad ideology cannot pay one’s mortgage or create jobs or jump start the economy in some way. If you are a member of the Tea Party Patriots [TPP] (umbrella name for all tea party groups), you might believe that ideology — especially yours — can do just that; especially if your party won some seats on election day. Bright-eyed and bushy -tailed, the TPP arrives in Washington and sets about promoting their agenda – cut government spending. The first thing on the chopping block, ear marks.
Ear marks are those special state projects that lawmakers tuck into bills to build roads, hospitals, etc. Inevitably, there is always someone who abuses the system. Inasmuch as cutting spending and reducing the national deficit, earmarks represent less than one percent of $13.8 trillion (our deficit). While reforming the process would be a good practice, the TPP is clearly setting the stage for what their ideology is — all or nothing. There is no talk of reform or correction or regulation – words that equal socialism to these folks. Instead, a moratorium on ear marks — an outright ban — for the next Congress.
“I was not hiring a talk radio host; I was hiring a very brilliant political mind, someone that has been in South Florida politics for 20 plus years. But unfortunately the liberal left showed that I guess they are threatened and intimidated by me, and so they went into the attack dog mode, which is something that they did the entire time in our campaign.” [See full video]
UPDATE: Leading off in the video is Joyce Kaufman, a conservative talk show host in Miami FL. Kaufam, who carries a 357 Magnum gun, has become nationally famous from her comment that if “ballots don’t work, bullets will.” She was tapped to become chief of staff for Republican Congressman-elect Allen West. On Thursday, that all changed when Kaufman decided not to take the appointment due to an email from someone who stated that something big was going to happen in either a school or post office.
It’s not clear whether anything Kaufman has said prompted the threat. All authorities have said was that schools were locked down after an e-mail was sent to her at WFTL AM on Wednesday, claiming “something big was going to happen,” possibly at a post office or a school.
The e-mail contained the ranting of a very extreme out-of-control person, and mentioned gun rights and contained hate messages against ethnic and religious groups, police and school officials have said. The e-mail was found after an unidentified woman called the station and said her husband might go to a campus and open fire with a gun. Dozens of officers were sent to protect the schools, but nothing ever happened. [....]
At some point, like right now, we have to stop baiting the darkness in life and reach for the light. This is no way to win an election or anything else.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s update on the new class of congressional leaders. This is a must watch; especially the opening showing a would be staffer to a newly elected Tea Party favorite who states clearly that if ballots won’t work, bullets will. This kind of rhetoric is meant to incite a crowd into violence. In my opinion, this is worse than yelling FIRE in a crowded theater. This is not free speech. What are your thoughts?
Linda Murkowski’s (Murkowy’s or Mercowsi’s) write in vote in Alaska warms our heart and tickles our cockles. Democracy at work — ain’t it grand. But the GOTea Party will have nothing of it. Murkowski’s opponent, John Miller, filed a lawsuit today to further delay the inevitable. In one race after another, candidates from the far right seem to have a penchant for sour grapes. If they do not get their way, they stomp their feet by filing frivolous lawsuits because they did not win. Earth to John Miller: Give it up.
Once again, Rush Limbaugh goes beyond too far with his racist diatribe on national radio. Once again, Limbaugh portrays himself as a scurrilous creature of the night, spitting and spewing vicious racists epithets at society en mass. Were the Great Bard of Avon about, surely he would strike back at Limbaugh filling his pen with truth so sharp as to pierce the foulest of darkest places embedded in the heart of this creature who no longer is man, no longer is human. Clearly, it is a demon most vile that dwells within the mind of Limbaugh for him to think, let alone state, with fervor such maniacal and menacing words.

“How Much Is A Life Worth?” That’s the question that national NAACP President Ben Jealous opened his message with in calling attention to what is most definitely a gross miscarriage of justice and blatant racism, Jim Crow style. His message centers on what is taking place in the lives of Jamie and Gladys Scott in Mississippi in the 21st century. This is the kind of story one would read about in history books focusing on slavery of the early to mid 1800′s, or Jim Crow racism of the 1950s — 1960s. The Jim Crowism and blatant racism is right on. It is the date that makes us sick in the stomach.
After 20 years, Connecticut elected a Democratic governor. Dan Malloy (D) won over Tom Foley (R) by 5,637 votes, placing Malloy well beyond the recount threshold. In addition, the balance of power in Connecticut’s legislature has also shifted; neither party has total control.
The campaign was a long, nasty and expensive battle. Its over and given the economic turmoil the new governor faces, the ideal scenario would be that everyone put the past aside and unite together for the sake of our citizenry.
At first glance, one might see the title of Rev. Sexton’s blog, “Dear Ones Healing Ministry,” and would assume it is a blog about religion and healing for one’s soul. Instead, the first post on the front page boasts, “NAPPIER VS. WRIGHT” The latest news from Tea Party Patriot Reverend Barbara Sexton.” Beneath the title is an animated American flag with a caption that reads, “CT is burning to the ground while Nappier is fiddling around with our money.”
