I didn’t bother watching the Oscars. I rather see performers perform. And the format has become rather predictable over the past few years, wasting a cadre of talent. Emcee’s do a variation of the same predictable routine, a film clip is played, someone[e]s get awards. Snivels, sputtering and thank you God is followed by a live performance and then it starts all over again. It’s time to get creative folks. Hopefully, next year someone will be bored like me and mix it up a little.
I heard this year’s Oscars was bland and rather “vanilla” – no black people were nominated; not even a light-skinned black person. We were there in spirit. The incredible Lena Horne was remembered in a special tribute by Halle Berry and the audience was treated to a movie clip of Horn singing her signature song, Stormy Weather, from the movie of the same name. Jennifer Hudson amazed us all with her one-of-a-kind, powerful voice and her new figure. When Hudson appeared at the Oscars a few years back (won best supporting actress for Dream Girls), there was a lot of uncomplimentary remarks about her weight and her dress. That all changed and Hudson is now a spokesperson for Weight Watchers. Eating sensibly and working out daily has paid off in spades! She arrives at the Oscars once again and this time, the headline says, “Jennifer Hudson Oscars 2011: Stunning or Too Thin? [Meow!] To the athur of the article, “and how much do you weigh?”
Hopefully next year, the Academy Awards will live up to its name and put on an awards show to remember, one that is also more inclusive that will showcase the expansive talent this country has to offer.
So basically Jennifer Hudson is now known and liked for having lost a bunch of weight? Blech. Preoccupation with such things is exactly the reason the awards are bland and vanilla! Incidentally I think that dress did her no favors at all. Gave her weird boobs.
