GOP Bible Study 2012: Thou shalt bear false witness

I'm good. Its the rest of you that's got issues.

View from the Roof 3/13 | Its Sunday and time to step into Sybil’s GOP Bible Study 2012 designed especially for Republicans who have their own version of Christian values.

Today’s Gripe:

Republicans’ concept of Christian forgiveness means do whatever you want, to whom and with whom. Give the public time to forget and come out talking about God’s forgiveness and everyone will love you again.

Republicans idea about bearing false witness means lie for as long and as often as you can. The more you call a lie the truth, spin it in false advertising through mass media, the more people believe it and before you know it, your lie is now the truth.

Didn’t any of these folks attend at least one catechism class, open up their Bible out of curiosity maybe, just once? And don’t let me get started on that false prophet Coe over on C Street. All he has done is picked out certain parts from every religion – including Islam – merged it all together and came up with his own religion; calls it Christianity – but whose version, people. Who you listening to?

Enough of Coe for the moment – I’ll get back to him another time. Let’s talk about Newt Gingrich’s appearance on a Christian television network talking about how his womanizing and dumping his first two wives was “partially” due to the demands of his job. Girls, if ever there was a man who needed to be tarred, feathered and sent packing – Gingrich is the one. “Sorry, honey, I cheated on you and then dumped you because I had too much to do at work.” Really. He sure as hell had enough time to get his pants down and do the nasty whenever he could with someone other than his wife. Hello!

Oh wait, and then he claims it’s all good because he has seen the great light of “God’s forgiveness.” The only light that’s shining is on his unzipped pants and his arrogance. The forgiveness was for the two wives he dumped. “Forgiving another for wrongs done has been described as having compassion, a ceasing to feel resentment, or a cancellation of debt owed.”[….] After all of that, here comes Gingrich publicly dredging up old wounds for these women and shamefully tries to cheat them out of healing by snatching it up for his personal gain. I hope these two women continue to release this bitter pill and heed a powerful lesson – run the next time any man remotely resembling Newt Gingrich shows up on their door step.

What Gingrich fails to see are the complexities of Christianity. Some may even call it the wrath of God. That’s what happened when Gingrich was House speaker and his brethren heeded a call from within that said go down to Congress and root out that false prophet laying up in your house, and Gingrich got the boot. And now he wants to be King. Really.

So, how does Gingrich the Hopeful Future King of America plan to become king? By doing what he does best, lie. Gingrich, the Republican party’s “idea man,” has made a career out of lying. That’s how he proposes to win against the President in 2012, lie.

Wait a minute. Isn’t there a Commandment in Christianity that says, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor?”Didn’t Gingrich just appear on a Christian television station practically claiming to be reborn again? No problem. All he has to do is reverse the meaning of bearing false witness as it currently appears:

Thou shalt not bear false witness, etc. – Not only false oaths, to deprive a man of his life or of his right, are here prohibited, but all whispering, tale-bearing, slander, and calumny; in a word, whatever is deposed as a truth, which is false in fact, and tends to injure another in his goods, person, or character, is against the spirit and letter of this law. Suppressing the truth when known, by which a person may be defrauded of his property or his good name, or lie under injuries or disabilities which a discovery of the truth would have prevented, is also a crime against this law. He who bears a false testimony against or belies even the devil himself, comes under the curse of this law, because his testimony is false. By the term neighbor any human being is intended, whether he rank among our enemies or friends. [….]

To a new version that supports what Gingrich does right now:

Thou shalt bear false witness, etc. – Not only false oaths, to deprive a man of his life or of his right, are here permitted, but all whispering, tale-bearing, slander, and calumny; in a word, whatever is deposed as a truth, which is false in fact, and tends to injure another in his goods, person, or character, is the spirit and letter of this law. Suppressing the truth when known, by which a person may be defrauded of his property or his good name, or lie under injuries or disabilities which a discovery of the truth would have prevented, is also permitted under this law. He who bears a false testimony against or belies even the devil himself, for the sake of gaining power or wealth or public office is permitted under this law, because his testimony is false. By the term neighbor any human being is intended, whether he rank among our enemies or friends.

There’s something very wrong with this picture. Conservative Christians — especially those of the far right persuasion — allow themselves to be driven into a xenophobic frenzy about other religions, and then allow politicians to mess with their own. Where’s your moral outrage and public outcry against those who trample on basic Christian values and twist them around for their own greed, arrogance and stupidity?

Maybe Gingrich and his GOP pals could use a mandatory 90-day catechism class with Sis. Mary Kelly and her trusty ruler – she’d whip them into shape. The only lie for the greater good Sis. Mary Kelly could possibly be accused of was that her slammin’ your knuckles with her ruler was far more painful for her than for you!

Maybe the GOP should come to my town. There’s a Hare Krishna gathering going on next door with free lunch that I’m headed to. After that, I going to a poetry reading at a local Muslim center featuring desserts from around the world, and then I’ll dance off the calories at the Salsa club down the block.

That’s a wrap for today, people. Got to get out, socialize with people from different cultures, experience their foods and then work it on out by enjoying the fruits of what happens when worlds collide. Ran Kan Kan / Oye como va mi ritmo, Bueno pa’ gozar, mulata.

One person you forgot to add to the list of false witness bearers, Cong. Michele Bachmann. Now there’s a person who obviously hasn’t
    figured out the truth yet.

Amazing! One would think Gingrich and the other right-wing Reps would be know by now that everything is on the web the moment you say or do something. Great post.

Good stuff. Gingrich and his cronies should just go away — far away. Nobody believes him. He can’t remember what he said from one day 2 the next. BTW, I really like this wordpress theme. Its good for someone who posts a lot of articles like you do. Keep up the good work.

A powerful share so I passed this onto a colleague who was doing some research on this. He was grateful for the post and bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this. I feel strongly about it the GOP double-speak at every turn. And Gingrich suddenly having a come-to-Jesus-moment is an insult to all religious people. Thumbs up for saying so.!
