Tell Comcast to Broadcast Al Jazeera English Now!

Today’s cause is a petition to Comcast to broadcast Al Jezeera English, considered to be “one of the most influential news networks in the world.” Their reason is that there isn’t sufficient demand. Not so. Read the message from my friends at Change.org to find out the truth of the matter; then sign the petition and pass it on.

Millions of people face devastating losses and Cantor threatens to hold hurricane relief hostage?

Home in NC hit by Hurricane Irene/CNN

Like birth, age, sickness and death, who can readily predict the weather? Over the last week or so, the East Coast was shook by an earthquake followed by a massive storm, Hurricane Irene. Our state was hit by Hurricane Irene, but the damage we sustained is irksome compared to others.

Batten down the hatches. Irene’s on her way.

Last walk on the beach at sunrise.

The last few days on Tybee Island where we spend a chunk of our summer, heavy thunder storms, lightening and torrential rain spurts started up telling us its time to make preparations to begin our trek home.

During the daytime, intermittent, southern rain showers pass by. They’re a thin wall of rain that passes over quickly and is gone and dried up by Georgia’s hot sun in minutes. By the second week of August, the storms start to come up from the ocean, hang out a bit longer and then move on. By the middle of August, they get a little more fierce; especially at night. That’s when we head home.

Koch money, the GOP & Tea Party Recklessness and the Blame game.

When you accept money for political campaigns from big corporations and special interests groups that display a failure to respect the rights and viewpoints of others, and embrace a humanistic way of doing business, you end up becoming just like them. The funding of millions of dollars by the Koch brothers of the GOP and the Tea Party is a perfect example of such a partnership. Yesterday, iWatch News (Center for Integrity) said in an eye-opening article — that should be on everyone’s “must read in full” list — that:

When money and power trump humanity, greed, arrogance and stupidity rules.

Most politicians focus on the MPI axiom, money equals power and influence, especially when setting out to win an election. It’s no secret that the candidate with the biggest, bulging war-chest is most likely to have greater influence giving him or her the best chances of winning. What the GOP and the Tea Party hasn’t figured out yet is that this is not a stand alone axiom; there’s much more to consider. When you take a one-dimensional approach to MPI, the axiom arrogance equals greed followed by stupidity (AGS) steps up.

Hoplerin and Wirch beat Tea Party & GOP Challengers in Wisconsin Recall Election

Senate Democrats in Wisconsin win in the last recall election this week, leaving Republicans/Tea Party members with a slim margin of 17-16 in Wisconsin’s senate. Clearly, the citizens of Wisconsin are tired of the push back on Democracy that the GOP and its party base, the Tea Party, have inflicted on them since Gov. Scott Walker came into office.

Michele Bachmann. Serious presidential candidate or Stepford wife?

Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann

Michele Bachmann wins a straw poll and there’s much media ado. My take? So what. Unless you are a member of the Tea Party, her straw poll win means nothing to the rest of us. Besides displaying little to no knowledge of American history, the economy, foreign policy and a few other things that a president should know, Bachmann’s views are radical and often incomprehensible.

GOP Presidential Candidate Debate: Beck endorses Michele Bachmann.

It’s just a straw poll sponsored by Fox News and we really shouldn’t take it so seriously. The presidential debate among GOP presidential nominee hopefuls was short on substance, and was more of a GOP brawl with intermittent jabs at the President. Newt Gingrich railed against the debate’s host grumbling something about “gotcha” questions. Star-eyed Michele Bachmann railed against Tim Pawlenty with much gusto (who fired back with equal attacks) but not always, as usual, with the truth.

DNA proves 10 Black men innocent but Illinois refuses to recognize their innocence.

The advancement of technology, such as DNA testing, enables us to accurately identify criminals, try them in our courts with irrefutable evidence and put them in prison. Even more important is that for those who were wrongfully convicted, we can now accurately prove their innocence and exonerate them.

Rep. Jeff Denham (R) faces hundreds of angry protesters

Democrats didn’t win in Wisconsin — yet — but Republicans are losing ground with their constituents in other states. Angry over no jobs and how Republicans have opted out on their promises to fix the economy by placing their support firmly behind their deep-pocket donors, GOP constituents are letting them know just how they feel about that. Watch the video below and be sure to check out Jack & Jill Politics post, “Boehner Confronted by His Own Constituents for Failing to Create Jobs.

$40 million vs. $8 million and Wisconsin GOP still lost two seats.

Some see this as a victory for the GOP in Wisconsin — headlines claim, “Republicans take 4 seats in recall …” But the reality is Republicans, despite an obscene amount of money (Koch brothers), held onto four seats and lost two seats.

Stop GOP efforts to block No-Cost Birth Control for all women.

There’s no let up by far right-wing groups and their war on women. Of late, its birth control. Go figure. Isn’t this a bit punitive? No abortion and now no birth control and certainly no free contraceptives. I find this more radical than no abortion; it harkens back to a time when the world was a little less civilized and a little more ignorant.

Classic, a Target clothing factory in Jordan, escalates abuse of whistle-blower rape victims ahead of rape trial.

My friends at Change.org need our help in stopping what’s happening in Jordan. Supervisors at Target’s clothing factory in Jordan routinely rape young girls who go there to work. Some brave young girls have stood up to this abuse and are set to testify at trial within days. Instead of backing away from abuse, Target’s supervisor’s are escalating their abuse of these young girls. Other major clothing manufacturer’s involved at Classic are Walmart and Macy’s.  Companies that send jobs overseas and this kind of abuse arises should face heavy penalties that increase until such abuse is stopped. I’ll bet doing so would push some of these much needed jobs back to the US. But right now, we need to put the pressure on these companies to stop human rights abuse wherever it happens. Read the petition, sign it and pass it on!

Case study shows Moody’s credit rating agency at the heart of the financial crisis starting in 2004.

We’ve given much attention to S&P and the prospect of Moody’s following S&P’s lead with the second cardinal sin behind a debt default, a downgrade. Historically, however, all this began the other way around when S&P followed Moody’s in an act of one-up-man-ship during the last financial meltdown.
