This is Zachary’s story. Read it. Watch the video and then take action.
For Zachary, it started in the 3rd grade. First they said he looked and talked like a girl. Then they called him a “fag.” Finally, when he reached 8th grade, the bullying turned cruelly violent — and school administrators did nothing. It’s unacceptable. And stories like Zach’s are far from rare. Similar events are taking place across the country, creating a toxic environment that denies countless LGBT students their right to an equal education.
The ACLU LGBT project is pressuring Congress to take action. Watch a video of Zach’s story, which includes shocking footage of an in-class beating. Then, tell Congress to protect LGBT students from harassment and discrimination.
In a survey of 7,000 LGBT students, 90% were bullied because of their perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. Fear of this harassment is why too many drop out, suffer physical or mental health trauma, and even try to end their own lives. It’s time for this to stop. Tell Congress to protect our students from harassment and discrimination today.
