Republicans relentless attack on USAG needs to stop.

When I saw the latest attacks on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, I was deeply concerned that an entire political party, namely the Republican Party, would go so far off course of what is right and befitting members of Congress. I could not help but wonder how could these individuals debase their office so fully by engaging in outright lies. And for what reason? They want to continue to promote a vicious and scathing attack on American voters by doing everything possible to prevent American citizens from voting.

There is no voter fraud. There is, however, a deeply misguided political strategy that seeks to win an election at any cost; even if it means to undo our democracy. That’s bad. Its time to call up and email Congress and tell them to stop this idiocy. The Leadership Conference‘s latest Alert has everything we need to take action. Read it, pass it on and take action.

The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform took extreme action today by voting to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress (23-17).  The contempt citation will now be considered by the full U.S. House of Representative next week. Call (202-224-3121) and email your representatives and urge them to oppose this politically motivated witch hunt.

Eric Holder has defended the civil rights of all Americans throughout his service as attorney general of the United States and head of the Department of Justice, and now he needs our support. Members of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, led by Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA), are taking the extreme measure of seeking to hold the attorney general in contempt of Congress. This political maneuver to put a stain on the exemplary job Holder has done must not be tolerated, and we must take action.

Email your representatives to ask them to vote “no” on holding Holder in contempt of Congress.

The House of Representatives has never voted to hold a sitting attorney general in contempt of Congress for protecting the documents at issue, and it shouldn’t do so now. This contempt citation is really a distraction at a time when the country’s resources, including those of the attorney general and the Justice Department, should be focused on the nation’s core challenges, including protecting civil rights, voting rights, disability rights, and several other concerns. We need you to contact your representatives and show your support for Attorney General Holder.

Background
Attorney General Eric Holder has demonstrated the importance of transparency and accountability by cooperating with Congress’s investigation of “Fast and Furious,” a contentious federal firearms enforcement operation. In response to Congress’s requests, the Justice Department has submitted more than 7,600 pages of documents and Holder has testified before Congress nine times. In addition, the department has made several senior officials available for testimony, interviews, and briefings.  The contempt citation is an inexcusable, unjust, and groundless distraction from important issues.
