Ever wonder whether your voice makes a difference – or, whether your email or phone call has any real impact. It does. When we seek to right the injustices in our society by uniting together for a just and honest cause, our united outcry through our letters, our emails and our phone calls inevitably moves mountains.
Most recently, it was reported that Glenn Beck’s show currently earns less than half the money his show made when the Color of Change organization launched its nationwide effort to ask advertisers to pull their advertisements from Beck’s show. Over 200,000 people spoke out and 62 advertisers responded by pulling their ads. Fox news is loosing over a half million dollars a week to keep Beck on the air. Our united voice made a difference.
It is imperative that we continue to put an end to the kind of lies and discrimination that shows like Beck’s promote. As parents and guardians, we determine what our children watch on television, the type of music they listen to and more. As consumers, we can also determine what we are subjected to through a kind of media whose sole purpose seems to be to lie, incite people to violence and espouse discrimination.
The Color of Change reported in their most recent newsletter that:
Last week, Beck and his supporters took credit for both Van Jones’ resignation and for the demotion of Yosi Sergent, who was “reassigned” at the National Endowment for the Arts following vicious attacks by Beck. And Beck has made it clear he’s got other targets.
Whether or not Beck’s claims correctly that it was he who caused the above changes in the Administration, it is clear that our job is not done. Beck’s supporters are fighting back hard.
