|Take Action Now: Pledge to join the Half in Ten Campaign’s fight to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for all working families.
On September 21, many of you joined the Half in Ten Campaign and Coalition on Human Needs hosted Stories Behind the Statistics: What the 2009 Poverty and Income Data Mean for Your Community. This webcast highlighted how existing poverty conditions – which have been worsened by the current economic climate – directly impacted the lives of 43.6 million Americans last year, and in particular, children and communities of color.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Census Bureau released the 2009 poverty and income data, which revealed the largest poverty percentage increase in 15 years. With an overall poverty rate of 14.3 percent and 15.5 million children living in poverty, it is evident that our communities need a large scale effort to help prevent struggling families from slipping further into destitution.
